Women Liberal Democrats began in 1887 as the Women's Liberal Federation. We are a membership organisation open to all Party members, both women and men. Our Constitution pledges us to eliminate all inequality based upon gender.

Why should you join the Women Liberal Democrats?
Because women still do not have an equal voice in Parliament, in our local Councils, nor in the Liberal Democrat Party itself. We are changing this by:
-
Organising seminars, fringe meetings, workshops and training sessions
-
Encouraging women to become and remain active members of the party
-
Supporting women candidates at national and local level
-
Putting forward Policy Motions to Conference
-
Campaigning on issues which affect women's lives
WLD in Bournemouth
Mon 18th Aug 2008
We are involved with two Fringe events in Bournemouth this year. On Saturday we are supporting the Amnesty Fringe meeting 'Trapped in Violence and Abuse - Is the UK Government failing to tackle violence against women?' This meeting will focus on the most vulnerable women in our society who are currently being failed by the system. Chris Huhne MP heads the list of speakers. On Monday we have our own WLD Fringe meeting 'Are We Nearly There Yet?' which will include a discussion of progress made since we were founded 20 years ago and will also focus on ways to get more women onto the Party Committees, where we are still severely under-represented. Click on the link for more details.

Garden Party NOT a washout!
Mon 18th Aug 2008
Fortunately our Vice-Chair, Miranda Whitehead, owns a large tent. This meant that we had a most enjoyable and profitable afternoon in her New Forest garden, despite the weather. Catherine Beardon, European Parliamentary Candidate for the South East, and Terry Scriven, PPC for New Forest East ,joined WLD members and friends for games and serious over-indulgence in cake, scones and other unhealthy eatables.

A Great Day in Bath
Thu 3rd Jul 2008
The WLD Bath Forum, which took place last Saturday in the Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution, was an extremely successful event. The participants enjoyed the opportunity to listen to some excellent speakers, take part in lively discussions, network with other women and learn more about what being a LibDem activist is all about. All agreed that the venue, in one of Bath's most beautiful squares, was most attractive - and the lunch, provided by Claire and other helpers, was pretty good too!

Grief at Death of Pauline Campbell
Sun 18th May 2008
The WLD Executive have expressed their grief at the death of the tireless prison campaigner, Pauline Campbell, who was found dead beside her daughter Sarah's grave on Thursday. Pauline was a trustee of the Howard League for Penal Reform, and took part in protests outside many prisons following Sarah's death in Styal prison in 2003.
