Annette Brooke helps WLD launch Patsy Calton Award

February 23, 2007 3:48 PM

Last night at the WLD annual dinner, Annette Brooke helped to launch the Patsy Calton award, aimed at celebrating the achievements of women throughout the Party.

Patsy Calton was elected into Parliament in 2001. She first stood in Cheadle in 1992 against a Tory majority was 15,778. She stood again in 1997 and slashed that majority to 3189. Patsy was diagnosed with breast cancer following the 1997 election campaign and underwent a double mastectomy the same year. In May 2005 she increased her majority to 4020 despite being unwell from the time her illness recurred in 2004.

Sadly on 29th May 2005 Patsy died. The Patsy Calton award has been launched to celebrate the inspirational work of Patsy as a wife, a mother, a teacher, an activist, a Councillor, a Parliamentarian, to name but a few of her roles!

We are asking you to nominate either an activist, a councillor or an MP/MEP/AM/MSP who you believe has made an exceptional contribution to the party.

You can find a copy of the nomination form on our website or alternatively please email women@libdems.org.uk with the name of your nomination, the category in which you wish to nominate them, and your reasons for doing so. The deadline for nominations is Monday 11th June. We look forward to hearing your suggestions!
